Instagram and Facebook ads can work for small-budget businesses too, as long as the budget is spent on the right goal and the right audience. Many businesses press the “boost post” button, see no results and decide ads don’t work. In most cases, the problem is the setup.
Pick a single goal first
What do you expect from the ad? Getting messages, bringing visitors to your website, getting orders or bookings, or introducing your brand to more people all need different campaign objectives. On a small budget, focus on one goal instead of trying them all at once. For local businesses, message or call campaigns are usually a good start.
Narrow the audience, but don’t choke it
Location targeting is the most powerful setting for small businesses: choose only the area you serve. Narrowing interests too much, on the other hand, makes it harder for the ad to learn. Starting with age and location and leaving room for the algorithm usually works better.
The creative is everything
Even if you reach the right audience, an ad gets scrolled past if the visual doesn’t grab attention in the first second. Short vertical videos that show the product or the benefit in the first second usually perform best. Test two or three creatives at once and keep the one that works.
Spread the budget over several days
Spread your budget over at least a week instead of spending it in a day. Meta’s system gets to know your audience in the first days; changing settings often during this time resets the learning. Make decisions based on at least a few days of data.
You can’t optimise without measuring
Installing the Meta Pixel on your website lets you see what visitors from your ads do. In message campaigns, tracking how many messages turn into sales, even in a simple spreadsheet, shows which ad really works.
Support it with consistent content
If someone who sees your ad visits your profile and finds an empty or outdated account, their trust drops. Regular content that reflects your brand also raises your ads’ conversion rate.
