When your customers need something, they usually type it into Google first. If you’re not on the first page, you’re most likely not seen at all. SEO (search engine optimisation) is all the work done to help your site rank high in these searches without paying for ads.
How does Google rank websites?
Google’s goal is to show the searcher the most useful result. To do that it looks at three things: whether your site works well technically, whether the content truly answers the question being searched, and how trustworthy your site is. SEO means strengthening your site in these three areas.
1. Find the right keywords
Which words do your customers use to search for you? “Corporate web design” or “get a website made”? Find the language your customers use rather than industry jargon. If you serve a local area, add city and neighbourhood names too, like “Kadıköy dental clinic”.
2. Give each service its own page
Instead of listing all your services on one page, give each one its own page. When each page’s title, description and content focus on a single topic, Google understands far better what that page is about.
3. Build a solid technical foundation
- The site should load fast on mobile; most visitors come from phones.
- Every page should have a unique title and description.
- Images should be compressed and have descriptive alt text.
- The sitemap should be submitted to Google Search Console.
4. Create content that answers questions
Turn the questions your customers often ask into blog posts. Posts like “How long does it take to build a website?” or “How much should I spend on ads?” bring search traffic and show that you know your business. Don’t forget to link your posts to the relevant service pages.
5. Don’t neglect your Google Business Profile
In local searches, businesses that appear on the map show up before the regular results. Fill in your profile completely, add photos regularly and reply to reviews. For details, see our Google Business Profile guide.
6. Earn trust
Other trusted sites linking to you is like a reference letter in Google’s eyes. Industry directories, local news sites, your partners’ websites and genuine customer reviews all build your credibility.
How long does SEO take?
SEO is a marathon. On a new site, meaningful results usually start to appear within 3–6 months. So if you need quick results, it makes sense to run SEO alongside Google Ads: ads bring customers today while SEO builds a lasting channel for tomorrow.
